Eligibility Requirements Section
Scholarships are very competitive. Unless exceptional circumstances exist, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

 

Application Procedures]
Freshman applicants must submit the University Scholarship Application, including required essays, postmarked on or before January 15, 2008. Continuing UO students, transfer students and graduate students must submit these materials by February 1, 2008.

Freshman Applicants
Freshmen are defined as students with 44 or fewer college quarter credits as of September 2008.

OR

  • Applications for Undergraduate Admission (without completed scholarship section), official high school transcript and SAT or ACT scores to the Office of Admissions.
  • University of Oregon Scholarship Application, including essays and activities summary (see application for details), to the Office of Admissions

    Note: If you have completed the scholarship section of the admissions application, you DO NOT need to submit a separate University Scholarship Application.

Sophomore Applicants
Sophomores are defined as students with 45 to 89 college quarter credits as of September 2008.

  • Request that final high school transcripts be sent to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  • Request that current college transcripts showing all completed college-level work (except at the UO) be sent to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions are not available for review with your scholarship application.
  • Submit University Scholarship Application, including essays and activities summary, to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Junior, Senior, and Graduate Applicants
Juniors and seniors are defined as undergraduate students who have more than 90 college credits as of September 2008; graduate students are defined as students who have applied to a graduate degree program for 2008-9 or are currently admitted to a graduate program.

  • Request that current college transcripts showing all completed college-level work (except the UO) be sent to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Graduate students must include transcripts showing their completed undergraduate work. Transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions are not available for review with your scholarship application.
  • Request that a faculty member submit recommendation for you using the Faculty Recommendation for Scholarships available for download with the application.
  • Submit University Scholarship Application, including essays and activities summary, to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Selection Criteria Section
Every aspect of the application is important. The Scholarship Committee considers many factors: academic performance, SAT I or ACT scores (freshmen), extracurricular involvement, faculty recommendation (juniors, seniors, and graduate students), as well as writing ability and creativity as demonstrated in the career aspirations and scholarship essays.

 

Scholarship Renewal Section
Laurel Awards are for one year only. Students are encouraged to reapply each year.




Recipients of Laurel Awards will be notified by April 1, 2008.
