Presidential Scholarship

Presidential Scholarships are awarded competitively to the state's brightest incoming freshmen. Scholars receive approximately $8,500 per year, renewable for up to four years of study. Approximately 50 freshmen receive this scholarship each year. Presidential Scholarships are made possible by the generous contributions of donors to the University of Oregon Scholarship fund. 

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply and compete for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be an Oregon resident, graduating from an Oregon high school
  • Be an incoming freshman
  • Have at least a 3.85 cumulative high school grade point average (g.p.a.)
  • Have at least a 1240 combined math and critical reading SAT score or 28 ACT composite score
  • Have a significant, demonstrated history of leadership and volunteer service activities

Application Procedures

Apply for the online Presidential Scholarship. The deadline to submit your complete online application is January 15, 2012.

You must also apply for admission to the University of Oregon by January 15, 2012. Apply for admission at http://admissions.uoregon.edu/apply/index.htm.

Selection Criteria

The online Presidential Scholarship Application will ask you to complete charts detailing your activities and talents, volunteer service and work experience, as well as answer three short-answer essay questions. These will be evaluated along with academic transcripts and test scores included in your UO Undergraduate Admissions Application.

Selection to receive the Presidential Scholarship is competitive. Approximately 50 incoming Oregon freshmen receive this scholarship each year.

Scholarship Renewal

Presidential Scholarships are renewable for up to 12 terms, providing recipients meet the following

  • Be enrolled in and complete a minimum of 12 UO credits per term.
  • Maintain a 3.25 UO grade point average

Notification of Awards

Recipients of Presidential Scholarships will be notified by April 1, 2012.
