Laurel Scholarship
Eligibility Requirements
Selection for scholarships is very competitive. Unless exceptional circumstances exist, applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be considered.
Application Procedures
Freshmen
Incoming freshmen will automatically be considered for many scholarships including Laurel Scholarships by completing the University of Oregon Undergraduate Admission Application by January 15, 2010. No separate Laurel Scholarship application is required for incoming freshmen.
All Non-Freshman Applicants
- If applicable, submit the application for admission—including a $50 nonrefundable fee, official transcripts, and test scores—to the Office of Admissions by February 16, 2010.
- Complete the University Scholarship Application, including essays and activities summary, and submit it to the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. All documents must be postmarked by February 16, 2010. Click here to be taken to the Scholarship Application download page.
- Request that a faculty member submit the Faculty Recommendation for University of Oregon Scholarships form with a letter of recommendation to the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships by February 16, 2010.
Transfer Applicants
Transfer applicants with fewer than 60 college quarter credits by September 2010:
- Request that final high school transcripts be sent to the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
- Request that college transcripts (except from the UO) showing all completed college-level work be sent to the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Transfer applicants with 60 or more college quarter credits by September 2010:
- Request that college transcripts (except from the UO) showing all completed college-level work be sent to the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Graduate & Law Applicants
- Request that college transcripts (except from the UO) showing all completed college-level work be sent to the UO Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Note: If you are a current UO graduate or law student and have applied for Laurel / General University Scholarships in the past, we may already have your transcripts on file. You may call the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships to determine whether or not you will need to submit academic transcripts with your 2010-11 application.
Selection Criteria
Every aspect of the application is important. The Scholarship Committee considers many factors: academic performance, SAT I or ACT scores (freshmen), extracurricular involvement, faculty recommendation (continuing, transfer, graduate and law students), as well as writing ability and creativity as demonstrated in the career aspirations and scholarship essays.
Scholarship Renewal
Laurel Scholarships are for one year only. Students are encouraged to reapply each year.
Notification of Awards
Recipients of Laurel Scholarships will be notified by May 1, 2010.
