The amount of the Parent PLUS offered is based upon a student’s Estimated Student Expenses/Cost of Attendance at the University of Oregon, less any other financial assistance for the period of enrollment. The amount of the Parent PLUS may change if there is a change in the student’s other financial assistance. We encourage parents to only borrow the minimum amount necessary to assist with paying for a student’s educational expenses.

Each Parent Loan can have only one parent borrower. If more than one parent wishes to borrow from the Parent PLUS Program, each parent must submit an acceptance form and complete a master promissory note. The combined amount of the Parent Loans cannot exceed the financial aid eligibility of the student.

If you wish to apply for a Parent PLUS follow these instructions:

  • Complete the information on the Parent PLUS Application Form included with your student’s Financial Aid Award Letter packet. Make a copy for your records, and return the Parent PLUS Application Form to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

  • Complete a Parent PLUS Master Promissory Note (MPN).
A New MPN for Parent PLUS Loans can be completed online at http://dlenote.ed.gov. The parent completing the MPN will need their own U.S. Department of Education PIN to complete the process. If they do not have a PIN, they may register for a new or replacement PIN at the U.S. Department of Education PIN site at http://pin.ed.gov.

When a parent has completed an electronic Parent PLUS MPN, the University of Oregon will be notified by the Direct Loan Origination Center. Questions about the application process should be directed to the Direct Loan Origination Center at 800-557-7394. Once the Parent PLUS has been processed by the Direct Loan Origination Center, questions about repayment are to be directed to Direct Lending, http://www.dlssonline.com/.

NOTE : If a parent requires an endorser, they will be required to sign a new promissory note for each loan increase or any new loan borrowed from the Direct Parent PLUS Program.

The promissory note signed will be a master promissory note. A parent will sign one MPN for each student for whom they borrow a loan. A parent will not be required to sign additional notes for any increases made to an existing Parent PLUS or new Parent Loans borrowed in subsequent academic years for that student. Because the MPN is open ended, no loan amounts are specified on the promissory note. The amount borrowed is 1) the amount shown on a student’s most recent award letter or 2) the reduced amount a parent requests.

Parents will receive a Disclosure Statement from the Direct Loan Origination Center after the UO and Direct Lending has processed their loan, notifying them of the Parent Loan details. The net proceeds from the loan will be credited to a student’s University of Oregon student billing account. If any funds remain after the student’s bill is paid, they will be disbursed either to the parent or to the student. Parents have the choice of directing the refunds to either the student or parent borrower on the Parent PLUS Application Form.

A parent can request a paper version of the Parent PLUS MPN by indicating their preference on the Parent PLUS Application Form. Questions about the Parent PLUS Application Form can be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.
