The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships: University of Oregon

Apex Scholarship

The University of Oregon proudly announces a new scholarship program for incoming freshman, starting fall 2013.  The Apex Scholarship will award Oregon top scholars $12,000 over four years and, due to the difference in tuition, out of state top scholars $16,000 over four years.

Apex Scholarships will reward our newest scholars for reaching the peak of high school achievement.  They'll scale even greater heights as they join the UO's tradition of excellence.  The University of Oregon motto is Mens agitat molem, popularly translated as "minds move mountains."  Apex Scholars will have the power to do just that, with all the benefits of a UO education.

Apex Scholarship Criteria

Recipients must be incoming freshmen who have not attended another college after graduating from high school and who meet the following standards:

• Minimum 3.65 high school GPA on a 4.00 scale, and
• Minimum score: 1150 SAT (Math and Critical Reading only) or 25 ACT

Note:  If your GPA and test scores are higher than the above criteria, you may instead qualify for the Summit Scholarship.

Award Information

Oregon residents will receive $3,000 per year for four years for a total of $12,000.  Out-of-state students will receive $4,000 per year for four years, for a total of $16,000.  The Apex Scholarship can be combined with other scholarships, including the UO Presidential, Diversity Excellence, and General University Scholarships.  The Apex Scholarship may not be combined with the Summit Scholarship.

Application Procedures

Students who apply for admission by January 15 and meet the criteria will be automatically awarded the Apex Scholarship. No separate application is required. All application materials, including test scores, must be received by the February 15 document deadline. The SAT score is based on the critical reading and math sections only, and is the highest combined score. The ACT score is the highest composite score.

Electronic submission of scores is preferred.  When you take the test, list the UO as one of your score recipients. Our school code number for the SAT Reasoning Test is 4846; our code for the ACT is 3498.

If your high school GPA or standardized test scores improve sufficiently to make you eligible for the Summit Scholarship by the February 15 document deadline, you should have your latest transcripts and SAT or ACT scores sent to the UO Office of Admissions by that date.  You will be notified of changes by April 1.  New scholarship awards will not be made based on transcripts or test scores received after February 15.

Scholarship Renewal

Apex Scholarships are renewable for up to 12 academic terms (excluding summer) within a five-year period.  Renewal awards require a minimum 3.0 cumulative UO GPA and completion of 36 credits per year.
