1. Where is my financial aid refund?
Financial Aid typically pays to your University of Oregon Student Account prior to the start of each term. If your financial aid is greater than the amount owed on your student account, a refund is issued. To check the disbursement date for a given term, use the University of Oregon's Academic Calendar.
If this date has come and you have not received your aid, see the most common reasons below:
- You are set up for full time aid, but are not registered for enough credits.
- You have a Satisfactory Academic Progress Hold.
- You have not completed all requirements to be eligible for aid. Check Duckweb.
- You may not be eligible for financial aid. Contact our office.
2. What am I responsible for as a recipient of financial aid?
Your rights, responsibilities, and eligibility requirements are listed in My Award Letter.
3. How do I accept my loans on Duckweb?
Detailed instructions on how to accept your award letter on Duckweb can be found here.
4. How can I pay for college if my Parents do not take out the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan?
Because of federal loan limits, students may not have enough federal funds to cover all tuition, room and board, books, supplies, and personal expenses. If students are looking for a source of aid to replace the offered Parent PLUS Loan, students have the option of applying for the Student Plus Program or an Alternative Student Loan.
If a parent applies for the parent loan and is denied, they have the option of pursuing the loan with the help of a co-signer. However, if the parent writes to our office that they will not pursue the loan with a co-signer, the student may submit a written request for additional unsubsidized loans. Note that federal loan limits determine the amount of additional unsubsidized loans.
5. What do I do if I have accepted all of my financial aid and it is still not enough to pay for school?
Sometimes a student does not have enough federal aid to cover all costs associated with attending the University of Oregon. If this is the case, we recommend speaking with a counselor in our office during drop-in hours.
6. If I withdraw from school before the term is over does it affect my financial aid and scholarships?
If you withdraw from school you may be expected to repay a portion of your financial aid. According to a formula prescribed by federal regulations, any refundable amount used to pay tuition and fees or for university housing is returned to the appropriate financial aid sources. More information may be found here.
7. What happens if I do not pass all of my classes each term? What if I drop a class?
As a recipient of financial aid you must make Satisifactory Academic Progress by earning a minimum number of credits each term. Credit is earned for A,B,C,D and P grades. Credit is not earned for W, I, Y, N, AU, and F grades.
8. My financial situation has changed since filing the FAFSA. What are my options?
The financial information reported on the FAFSA cannot be updated. If there are unique circumstances such as the loss of a job, a large reduction in income, extraordinary medical expenses, etc, contact the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Unique circumstances may be reviewed by our office on a case by case basis.
9. I am a veteran. Am I eligible for aid? Are there any other services available to me?
Financial aid is available for eligible students that apply. The UO also has many Veteran Services offered from multiple departments.
10. Does your office have a Code of Conduct?
Yes. Our office has adopted a Code of Conduct from the National Association of Student Financial Aid Adminstrators' Statement of Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct for Institutional Financial Aid Professionals.
