I was sitting in an orientation, you know one of the many snooze fests we sit through, and somebody said, "If you live like a lawyer while you are a student, you will live like a student when you are a lawyer." It's stuck with me ever since. Here is a list of the most ridiculous things I have seen and heard of being bought with refunds.
- 60 inch flat screen TV that is bigger than your bedroom
- Shopping spree at the mall
- Treating all of your friends to a pizza party
- Moped to get from the dorms to class
- A NEW PUPPY!
These things all sound like a lot of fun, but the real reason you get a refund check is to help pay for books, rent, and other living expenses for the entire term. When you get your refund check, the first thing you should do is make a budget and find out exactly where that money is going to be needed. If you find out you don’t need your whole refund check you can reduce your loans so that in the future you can limit the amount of debt you have to pay back.
