The following are the terms and conditions of the Duck Excellence Scholarship.
Requirements
For incoming students: Maintain honorable grades for the remainder of high school; complete all courses required for admission to the UO; do not complete any courses or receive credits from any college institution after high school graduation; and register for at least 12 UO credits in your first fall term.
For all students: Register for at least 12 UO credits each term.
Renewal Criteria
Your scholarship renewal is evaluated annually at the end of each spring term. To renew, you must:
- Maintain a 3.00 UO cumulative GPA for cohorts 2016–17 and forward.
- Complete 12 UO credits at the University of Oregon for each term in which you receive a disbursement of your scholarship.
- Meet the conditions of participation in a co-curricular activity in collaboration with your Center for Multicultural Academic Excellence (CMAE) advisor.
- Meet with your CMAE-DES academic advisor once per term during the first two years of your scholarship.
If you don’t meet renewal criteria at the time of annual renewal review, you may work toward having the scholarship reinstated in subsequent terms by raising your GPA and/or completing additional credits. If your scholarship is not automatically renewed due to eligibility or lack of enrollment, you must submit an email to the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships once you are enrolled and eligible requesting that your scholarship be reinstated.
Length of Scholarship
The maximum number of terms you may receive the DES depends upon your class standing at the time you are awarded. Refer to your initial award email for your exact number of terms of eligibility or ask your CMAE advisor. Extensions to your DES eligibility period are not permitted for any reason.
Disbursement of Scholarship
One third of your yearly scholarship amount will be disbursed to your Student Billing Account each term in which you are enrolled full time. No more than one third of the scholarship can be disbursed per term.
Summer Courses
The DES may be used for summer term charges upon a written request to the CMAE. You must maintain full-time enrollment at the UO for summer terms in which you receive the DES. Summer term usage counts toward your maximum number of terms.
Study Abroad
You may use your Duck Excellence Scholarship for study abroad programs that are through the Global Education Oregon Office (GEO) at the University of Oregon. Any program for which you are not receiving at least 12 UO credits per term is not an eligible program, even if you are made aware of it through the GEO Office.
Combining With Other Scholarships
The Duck Excellence Scholarship is a tuition remission scholarship, and it may be reduced or replaced if used with UO staff tuition rates or other tuition remission scholarships.
Final Term of Attendance
During your final term of attendance at the UO prior to graduation, you may have that term’s DES amount in full for less-than-full-time enrollment, as long as you have officially applied for graduation for that term and are enrolled in at least six credits. You must contact the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships to specifically request disbursement of your scholarship for less-than-full-time enrollment in your final term of attendance.
