– Decision Day Extended –

The enrollment confirmation for first-year students admitted for fall 2024 is extended to June 1. Due to June 1 being a Saturday, the Office of Admissions will assist anyone experiencing technical difficulties or needing other assistance on Monday, June 3. Rest assured that this will not affect your ability to commit to the UO.

Selective Service Requirement for Federal Aid

Beginning June 17, 2021, documentation of Selective Service registration is no longer required for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond.

Our records show that you have not yet registered with the Selective Service. Before you can be awarded federal financial aid, you must register with Selective Service.

Action required

  1. Register with Selective Service at www.sss.gov
  2. Notify the Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships so we may verify that you have successfully completed registration.

Why do I have to do this?

All males 18-25 years old are required to register with Selective Service in order to be eligible for federal aid.

Am I exempt from Selective Service Registration?

If you meet one of the exemptions, submit a letter to the Financial Aid Office explaining why you are exempt. Provide supporting documentation. Exemptions may include:

  • males currently in the armed services and on active duty (this exception does not apply to members of the Reserve and National Guard who are not on active duty);
  • males who are not yet 18 at the time that they complete their applications (an update is not required during the year, even if a student turns 18 after completing the application);
  • males born before 1960;
  • citizens of the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, or the Federated States of Micronesia*;
  • noncitizens who first entered the U.S. after they turned 26;
  • noncitizens who entered the U.S. as a lawful nonimmigrant on a valid visa and remained in the U.S. on the terms of that visa until after they turned 26.

I am now too old to register with Selective Service.

If you were unable to register with Selective service prior to turning 26 years old, submit a Status Information Letter from Selective Service along with a personal statement as to the reason you failed to register between the ages of 18-25 years old.
