Independent Because of Active Duty

On the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you indicated that you are currently serving on active military duty in the US Armed Forces for a purpose other than training. You must to provide additional documentation before we can continue to process your financial aid.

Action Required

You will need to provide documentation of your Active Duty status. Acceptable documentation is a letter from your current command, in memorandum form, stating intent to release you from active duty with other than dishonorable character of service.

If you are not on active military duty, please correct your FAFSA.

Why do I have to do this?

A student who is on active military duty is considered to meet the qualifications of an independent student. It is your responsibility to provide documentation to the Financial Aid Office of your active duty status.
