Federal Exit Counseling

Federal Direct Loan borrowers are required to complete Exit Counseling once they meet any of the following criteria:

  • Apply for a degree
  • Are no longer enrolled at the UO
  • Are enrolled at less than half-time

Exit Counseling will review your rights and responsibilities as a Federal Direct Loan borrower and provide useful information as you make a financial plan for your future and begin repaying your loans. Complete Federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling online at studentaid.gov. If you are unable to complete Exit Counseling online, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships to obtain printed materials.

The Exit Counseling Guide in PDF can be found here.

Note: if you borrowed other student loans, such as Private Education Loans (i.e. Alternative Loans), they may have separate requirements. Please contact your lender or servicer for more information. If you have any questions following your Exit Counseling session, you may contact our office for assistance.
