– Deadlines Extended –

Due to the delay in FAFSA data being supplied to the University of Oregon, the UO is extending the confirmation deadline to June 1, 2024, for first-year students admitted for fall 2024. We are also extending the priority FAFSA filing deadline to April 1, 2024, for all UO students.

Default on a Federal Loan

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) indicates that you have at least one loan in default.

Action Required

The 'Fresh Start' initiative offers some possible exceptions for borrowers in default. Defaulted borrowers may regain eligibility for all forms of federal Title IV financial aid if they hold Fresh Start-eligible loans and meet certain criteria. Please contact our office to discuss further if you are in default on a federal student loan and would like consideration for further federal financial aid.

Your other option is to contact your loan servicer to resolve the default. If you have already resolved the default, provide a letter from your loan servicer to confirm this.

Why do I have to do this?

Any student with a federal student loan in default is not eligible to receive federal financial aid. In order to become eligible, you must provide proof that you have resolved the default.

How do I find contact information for my loan servicer?

You can find your loan servicer online and contact them about resolving your default.
