It can be a difficult transition to go from using the point system in the dorms to grocery shopping on your own for the first time. Here are a few tips to keep you from breaking the bank while eating well: More...
These may seem simple, but every time I'm at the store I see people missing out on great savings. I myself have bought something then as I was heading out noticed I could have saved $$$ on my purchase.
Join grocery store rewards programs to save money on every purchase.
Signing up is easy and free, don’t miss out on already discounted items. Some grocers allow you to add coupons to your reward card online to use in the store.
Buy produce in season to get the best product for the best price, you’ll have to do a little research and ask some questions, but this can be a huge savings!
Shop sales to save money & mix up what you eat. Check weekly ads in store and online, this is a great time to compare between different stores.
Compare prices of different stores to see who has your favorites for less. You can also ask the customer service managers when things typically go on sale.
Store brand products can have the same great taste for less than big brands.
Shop with a list and bring your calculator! Shopping with a list helps you cut out the things you don’t really need. Using a calculator can help you determine if a “sale” is really a good deal. Sometimes buying the generic will still be cheaper. Don’t worry, you won’t have to lug around your calculator, your phone probably already has one.
By taking a few extra minutes before heading to the grocery store and planning your meals for the week it can save yourself hundreds of dollars every quarter!
One last thing, don’t go shopping hungry, everything will end up looking good and typically you’ll buy stuff you don’t really need. Have a snack or a meal before heading out to the grocery store.
