Unusual Circumstances

On the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you did not provide parental information and you are not considered an independent student for financial aid purposes. You need to take additional actions in order to be eligible for financial aid. Your FAFSA indicates that you may have unsual circumstances to consider.

Action Required

You need to choose one of the following options:

  • Add parent information and signature to complete the FAFSA or
  • You are an unaccompanied homeless youth or are at risk of homelessness or
  • You have unusual circumstances and want to request to be considered an independent student for financial aid purposes

If Adding Parent Information

Complete the questions on your FAFSA about your parent(s) and have them sign your FAFSA.

If You Are an Unaccompanied Homeless Youth

You may request to be considered an independent by providing additional documentation.

If You Have Unusual Circumstances

If you have unusual circumstances concerning the relationship with your parents and wish to be considered an independent student for financial aid purposes, you may request a dependency override.
